Independent professional membership organisation
Professional Passport is an independent organisation with no links, shareholders or investors that are agencies, end clients or providers.
This allows us to provide unbiased, clear and practical guidance on the many issues across the market today.
Professional Passport is not reliant on advertising income, so we are not exposed to the inherent commercial pressures that might otherwise conflict with our principles.
For a number of years, the founders of Professional Passport have been involved in the contractor marketplace – from contracting through to close work with agencies, end clients, providers and more recently HMRC, UKBA and BIS. During this time we have seen a period of unprecedented change in both legislation and working practices.
These, together with the introduction of the MSC legislation, have now become so complex that compliance is becoming a major issue for all the component elements of the marketplace.
These changes have also brought a high level of duplication in processes to each part of the market. As a result, current operating methods have resulted in increased costs, increased administration and increased risk.
Professional Passport is working to identify these areas and find real solutions that reduce costs, reduce administration and increase compliance, therefore reducing risk for our members. Some of the areas we are focussed on include:
- Working arrangements
- Identity validation and protecting against ID theft
- Right-to-work checks and the prevention of illegal working
- Provider compliance
- Agency regulations
- Prevention of business fraud
- Reasonable care penalties
- MSC legislation and debt transfer
We believe we have already made significant progress in a number of these areas, although we do accept that more still needs to be done.
We are the largest independent assessor of provider compliance across the many aspects of legislation and, where that provider is assessed as compliant, we actively recommend them to our members.
This service significantly reduces the risks of unexpected debts or tax bills to contractors. It also allows agencies to provide independent support and guidance, where requested, to their contractors without the associated risks.
